Sex and Politics

Sex and politics Parijs

I am honoured that I may attend this exposition by Art-Icon.
November 13-16, 2025 in the Bastille Design Center in Parijs. curated by  Danila Tkachenko and Slavica Veselinovich.

“Sexuality is not simply a matter of private pleasure or personal freedom — it is an arena where ideological assumptions, social hierarchies, and symbolic power are negotiated… The liberation of sexual desire can thus never be straightforwardly opposed to politics — it is always already implicated in the larger political and ideological systems that govern society.” Slavoj Žižek

lets-grow

From May 31 to August 13: Let’s Grow, a collaboration with Jolanda Schouten at Kunstgargage Franx Zoetermeer.

In a Laboratory exhibition ‘Let’s Grow’, Jolanda Schouten and Melanie Bosboom explore the different facets of growth: to grow as a human, the change of life around us and the healing properties of plants. Inspired by their collaboration, the artists are also working in de kunstgarage, so the exposition is literally growing itself. The aim is to grow in full vulnerability and to heal in relation to the public exibition, the fellow artist and the fellow human beings. And the artist also deepen their friendship.
In June they will be at work the the laboratory.

In this period, Jolanda Schouten will also daar ook weer be present with her embroidery rug. Look for all activites at the website kunstgaragefranx.nl.

Film makers "Art for ever" made a beautiful short: ATELIER–the urgency to express yourself

02/09 - 30/09 Solo-exhibition “Behind the flow - Grow in solitude”

Opening: September 2. Is opened by Lieneke Hulshof at 17:00u.
What art can do, Tweede Tuindwarsstraat 4 Amsterdam.

In her solo exhibition ‘Behind the flow - Grow in solitude’, Melanie Bosboom (1971) views the studio as conquered territory, a safe space secured from the outside world. A space which allows for raw, unfiltered introspection, unburdened by contextualization or interpretation. Where there's room for research, questions and play, without any hesitation or inhibitions. A place where the most profound and intimate can be shared. Where boundaries are explored and the fluidity of the ‘self’ is experienced. But above all, where growth can be achieved in solitude.

For Bosboom, the creative process is intertwined with her own existence and her connection to her surroundings. A way to explore different possibilities of ‘being present’, and how the ‘self’ relates to the environment. She uses topics concerning our humanity that touch her very being, both physically and figuratively. The exhibition is about the power of vulnerability. About the failing body that reveals itself or chooses to hide, and takes different shapes in ‘being’.

Publication

A publication with work from the exhibition, for which Lieneke Hulshof has written a text, will also be presented during this exhibition. She is a freelance art journalist for Mister Motley and Metropolis M, among others, curator at Kunstenlab Deventer, moderator and teacher at Artez.
